4 Ways To Improve Home Comfort During The Summer

The summers in Texas often bring scorching heatwaves. It feels like there’s no escaping the heat, until you walk into your air conditioned home or office. Nothing brings instant relief quite like walking in from 100+-degree heat to nice, cool ~75-degree air conditioned room.

We’ve put together a few tips to improve your family’s comfort during these hot months so the summer can be more enjoyable.

1) Replace All Of Your Filters

People tend to forget about the furnace filters and return air filters, but swapping them out helps reduce strain on your HVAC system and improves efficiency and airflow.

2) Keep Those Fans Going!

Turn the fan mode on your thermostat on, even if you’ll be gone for most of the day. It keeps air moving and improves air filtration. When you’re home, turn overhead fans on to further circulate air. When you’re not in the room, overhead fans don’t do much, though, so turn them off when you’re not around. And if you’ll be gone for several days, you may want to turn off the fan mode on your thermostat to save some money.

3) Set Your Humidifier To The Right Season

If you have a humidifier attached to your HVAC system, be sure it’s set to the correct season (if applicable). This is often a manual procedure and many people forget to mess with these settings, but it only takes a minute and can make a world of difference. If you have the wrong season set the humidity in your home will be off, and that’s no good. Not only is it uncomfortable, it can cause some damage if condensation builds up.

4) Allow The Air To Flow

Closing too many doors in your home or shutting off duct registers causes strain on the system. If you don’t want to fully open the ducts, at least keep them cracked a little to relieve any build up.

And, of course, be sure to have your system serviced by professionals to ensure it is running properly. Having regular routine maintenance reduces the chances that your system will give out, which can cost a lot of money to fix or replace. Not to mention, every hour the system is down can cause a lot of discomfort for your family, no one likes sitting around in stagnant heat!
